Sustainable bed structures made of corrugated cardboard were chosen as part of the circular economy strategy for the athletes’ beds at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. 16,000 such structures were placed in the Olympic and Paralympic Village.

The idea for such a solution was born earlier during the Paris Olympics Games in Japan thanks to Airweave, manufacturer of mattresses and beds. As official Supporter of Paris 2024, Airweave manufactured the base frames in France from 100% recycled cardboard and recycle them in France after the event.

The use of renewable materials is consistent with the idea of sustainable development, as well as the organisers’ ambitions to reduce the environmental impact of the event. By using appropriate quality corrugated cardboard and a well-thought-out design, the bed is stable and durable. Moreover, once the games are over, the beds will be donated to organizations in the country such as the military, the Paris Opera Ballet School, Emmaüs and Ecole Hôtelière TSUJI, and the TSUJI Culinary Institute Group.
