Corrugman : Could you brief us about Erhardt+Leimer?

Amol Dave : Erhardt + Leimer is 105 years old, established in 1919 in Augusburg, Germany. Indian operation has completed 46 years in 2024. Company provides process improvement solutions of web guiding, tension control, print inspection, surface inspection to various industries like Textile, flexible packaging, corrugation, paper manufacturing, rubber and tyre industries, nonwoven, hygiene industry and EV battery Industry.

CM : What are your company’s mission & vision?

AD : Our company policy it to provide reliable products and services to customers. We believe in and commit total customer satisfaction. Company provides team work based on empowerment and engagement of employees and involvement of suppliers and customers through relationship management.

CM : How do you serve the Corrugation Industry?

AD : E+L offers system solutions for web guiding and web tension control, as well as the automatic adjustment and configuration of all important production parameters for intelligent automation and greater production efficiency. The product portfolio is supplemented with innovative inspection systems for the production and further processing of corrugated board.The latest development is SmartLine, a workflow concept for processing digitally printed rolls.

CM : Can you explain the key features, functionality, and variants of the ELTrac Single Facer Guiding System by Erhardt + Leimer, and how it improves production efficiency?

AD : The ELTrac Single Facer Guiding System by Erhardt + Leimer is a highly efficient solution designed to automate the alignment of papers in the single-faced web, ensuring precise and instantaneous positioning.

This system minimizes side trim width during slitter scorer operations reduces paper waste, and shortens machine downtimes, thereby enhancing overall production efficiency. It features automation that allows operators to focus on reel preparation and production tasks, while its precise glue application ensures consistent quality across the entire web width.

The system is available in two variants: the ELTrac Solo System, which uses a Flute Paper Detection Unit and an ELTrac Liner Paper Guiding Unit to align liner paper with flute paper, and the ELTrac Duo System, which includes an additional Flute Paper Guiding Unit for full-width glue application without starch transfer onto corrugating rolls. Both variants support integration into diverse machine layouts with Vertical or Cube ELTrac Guiding Units, ensuring consistent performance and adaptability. These capabilities make the ELTrac system an indispensable tool for improving operational efficiency and reducing production waste.

CM : Can you explain the key features and functionality of the CorrAligner Bridge Guiding System by Erhardt + Leimer, and how it enhances productivity and quality in corrugated cardboard production?

AD : The CorrAligner Bridge Guiding System by Erhardt + Leimer improves corrugator productivity and the quality of corrugated board by continuously guiding the single faced webs to the outer liner’s position without reducing production speed, even during wet-end grade or width changes.

This system helps to reduce paper waste, minimize trimming, and maximize width utilization, resulting in more efficient use of materials. The CorrAligner can be configured with two options, depending on available space: the CorrGuide Outer Liner Guiding System, which minimizes startup alignment waste at the slitter scorer, and the Outer Liner Detection Unit, which constantly monitors and guides the single-faced webs to the correct position of the outer liner. These features ensure optimal conditions for minimum trim and maximum deckle utilization at the Slitter Scorer, ultimately increasing productivity and improving the quality of the finished cardboard boxes.

CM : How does the Bridge Web Tension System by Erhardt + Leimer function, and what role does it play in maintaining consistent web tension in corrugated board systems?

AD : The Bridge Web Tension System by Erhardt + Leimer regulates the tension of a single-faced corrugated board web to ensure it is maintained consistently as it moves through the production process. This is achieved using two flange load cells that measure the actual web tension. The system’s PID controller compares the real-time web position with a pre-set target value and calculates the necessary correction signal. This signal adjusts the web tension by controlling the pneumatic brake or the optional 4-quadrant drive on the drive roller.

While the standard setup uses a pneumatic brake, the 4-quadrant drive is employed in cases of low web tensions or for aiding web draw-in. The system is primarily used in corrugated board production, positioned between the bridge web tension controller and the preheating group. Its modular design accommodates one to three-sided corrugated board webs, ensuring that the desired web tension is achieved and maintained throughout the process, which is crucial for consistent quality production. and efficient

CM : Can you explain the function and application of the ELCorr Compensating Roller by Erhardt + Leimer, and how it contributes to balanced web tension in corrugated cardboard systems?

AD : The ELCorr Compensating Roller by Erhardt + Leimer is designed to ensure a symmetrical distribution of web tension across the entire web width, eliminating any uneven tensions that may arise from length differences between the left and right edges of the web. This self-regulating roller is corrugated particularly cardboard useful in systems, where it is typically applied in the single facer machine and after the preheating group.

The compensating roller works by wrapping around an angle between 30° and 90°, with the actuation direction positioned at the angle bisector. Its design allows it to function effectively in both directions of web travel, ensuring consistent tension and contributing to the overall stability and quality of the production process.

CM : How does the TrimMaster Slitter Scorer Guiding System by Erhardt + Leimer function, and what are its key benefits in improving production efficiency and reducing waste in corrugated board manufacturing?

AD : The TrimMaster Slitter Scorer Guiding System by Erhardt + Leimer plays a crucial role in minimizing side trim during the slitter scorer operation. Equipped with a Web Stabilisation Device, the system ensures that the side trim width remains constant, allowing it to be reduced to its minimum. This functionality is especially beneficial in pre-print guarantees production, consistent as it slit-to-print accuracy. The TrimMaster also contributes to reducing paper waste by eliminating ‘tail-out’ waste, which typically occurs every time the rotary shear is used. As a result, the TrimMaster helps achieve minimal trimming, reduces overall waste, and enhances production efficiency, making it an essential tool for corrugated board systems.

CM : Technical features of your manufacturing plant (Capacity, Facilities, etc.)?

AD : E+L India boasts a world-class manufacturing facility that is ISO 9001 certified, located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, spanning across a 52,000 m² land area. The factory itself occupies 23,000 m², while the office space covers 2,500 m². With a dedicated workforce of 305 employees, E+L India maintains a strong operational presence, ensuring the production of high quality products and services in line with international standards.

CM : How advanced are your testing facilities in ensuring the quality of your Machineries?

AD : We supply CE, UL compliance product. We have complete in-house testing facility and all measuring equipment are calibrated periodically to maintain quality standard. We verify each component at the time of inward and also test it after integration with product before dispatch.

CM : May we know about your environmental management policies?

AD : We are committed to reduce waste, conserve energy and minimize carbon footprint. By promoting renewable resources, compliance with environmental regulations and employee awareness, we aim to protect natural ecosystems. Further to this our products itself helps to reduce waste during process so we directly help to protect environment.

CM : Any business expansions or Future business plans?

AD : Company has recently launched electrical rotary and linear motion drives. We would like to focus this product solution for different industries in 2025. E+L offers product solutions for Li-On battery manufacturing in South Korea, China, Japan, and Europe.

In coming years, we expect potential growth for Li-On battery manufacturing in India as well due to increase in sales of EV vehicles. We would like to focus this special industry proactively in coming years.

CM : Industry barriers and Competitions you are facing in the market?

AD : India is price sensitive market so price is one of the main challenges while we sell our products in India. However, we always try to offer latest German technology at reasonable price for Indian customers to support them globally. We believe, it is helpful for us in growing together with Indian customers.

CM : What are your other businesses segments you serve for?

AD : Company deals in various business segments like Textile, flexible packaging, Paper manufacturing, Rubber and Tyre Industry, Corrugation, Non-woven and Lithium-Ion battery production. Control panels for navy and other industries segments is also one of the important sales vertical of Indian operation.

CM : How does your company integrate sustainability into its supply chain practices, and what steps are taken to ensure that suppliers meet environmental and social responsibility standards?

AD : We ensure our suppliers follow pollution control guidelines like us as a part of environmental and social responsibility. We also do periodic inspection of suppliers to monitor their activities towards it as a part of our policy.

CM : In what ways does your company support local communities through CSR initiatives, and how do you measure the impact of these initiatives?

AD : We have started free education training center for local young workers whom we educate and improve their skills. These would in turn help them to improve and self develop and find suitable industrial career.
