The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) organised the WorldStar Awards and WorldStar Student Award Ceremony and Gala Dinner during ProPak Asia 2024, which was held on June 15.

The event was hosted by the show organiser, Informa Markets Asia, and was attended by around 300 packaging professionals from 42 countries and WPO Board Members as well as Informa Markets and UNIDO representatives. Once again, WorldStar and WordStar Student entries showcased the highpoint of innovation and dedication in the packaging industry.

The evening kicked off with an authentic cultural performance that celebrated the rich Thai cultural heritage. Besides the 90 winners present in the Ceremony, who represented 77 companies across 31 countries, the event included awarding two WorldStar Student winners – from Ghana and the USA – as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award in Packaging, which went to Gyorgy Viskel, from Hungary, honouring him for his lifelong contribution to the packaging industry.

The WorldStar Special Categories were also acknowledged during the night, including the best packaging innovations in Sustainability, Packaging that Saves Food, and Marketing. Last but not least, the President’s Award was presented by WPO President, Luciana Pellegrino and celebrated the most innovative and impactful packaging solution.

Luciana Pellegrino expressed her pride and vision for the future stating: ‘The WorldStar Awards ceremony celebrates the best of the best in packaging innovation from around the globe. And a special evening like this, gathers the global packaging community, strengthening our industry and inspiring us to push collaboration and solutions for a greater positive impact.’

Soha Atallah, WorldStar Coordinator and WPO Vice President for Marketing also shared her excitement, saying: ‘It is an honour for LibanPack to organise the WorldStar, on behalf of the WPO for the third consecutive year. Seeing the pride and the bright shine in the eyes of our winners makes all the effort worthwhile. This year, we are thrilled to celebrate the 56th edition of WorldStar in the vibrant city of Bangkok, during Propak Asia.’

Both Luciana Pellegrino and Soha Atallah expressed their appreciation to the Informa Markets team for hosting the WorldStar Ceremony and for their warm hospitality during WPO activities that included the board meeting, working groups and executive meeting – for a week (June 10-15), during ProPak Asia.
